Blair School of Music, 2400 Blakemore Ave, , Nashville, TN 37212

The Folk Instrument Studies Department at Vanderbilt’s Blair School of Music and the music program at Nashville State Community College are thrilled to invite Nashville’s college students, academy students, and young professional musicians to a FREE workshop with internationally renowned Scottish fiddle and cello duo Alasdair Fraser and Natalie Haas!

On Saturday, March 2, Alasdair and Natalie will teach two classes (10am-12pm and 1-4pm) in the Instrumental Rehearsal Hall at Blair that will explore elements and techniques of traditional music that can be used in composing and arranging tunes. The first session will introduce this topic in a way that will be approachable for all students, regardless of their previous experience with traditional music. The second session will provide students with the opportunity to apply those new techniques to fiddle tunes or their own compositions. The whole day will be a hands-on experience for all players of acoustic instruments, so bring your violins, cellos, guitars, mandolins, and more!

To RSVP to the workshop, scan the QR code in the attached Saturday flyer or click HERE.

Additionally, on Sunday, March 3, Alasdair and Natalie will teach a public tune-learning workshop (2-4:30pm) at Hillsboro Presbyterian Church; the workshop will be followed by a FREE community-wide jam session (4:30-6pm) and a concert played by Alasdair and Natalie (7pm). Tickets can be purchased for Sunday’s events at this link or by scanning the QR code in the attached Sunday flyer.

We hope to see you there!
